Books -

Autism:  Effective Biomedical Treatments by Jon Pangborn, Ph.D and Sidney Baker, M.D. is the DAN! Bible of Autism treatment and it was written by our doctor!

Understanding Autism through Rapid Prompting Method by Soma Mukhopadhyay gives step-by-step instructions about how to communicate using RPM (and a letterboard) for non-verbal children.

Autism Life Skills by Chantal Sicile-Kira is an excellent gift for teachers of older children with autism.

You’re Going to Love this Kid! by Paula Kluth is a terrific guide for teachers and parents to work together in mainstreaming a younger child with autism.

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Vaccinations by Dr. Stephanie Cave is a balanced approach to vaccinating children which lays out a timetable which allows children to get the shots when they need them.

Evidence of Harm by David Kirby documents the evidence that vaccinations have caused the autism epidemic and the story of the relentless parents who sought the truth.

Thinking in Pictures by Temple Grandin.  Temple is one of the highest functioning, profoundly autistic adults in the world.  She has a PhD. in animal husbandry and has designed most of the animal handling equipment used in slaughterhouses in the US.  By reading this book I was able to get into the mind of my children to understand how overwhelmed they felt by such sensory input as bright lights, itchy clothing and speaking voices.

Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall talks about the scientific basis and practical implementation of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet from the Mom who researched and designed it and saved her daughter.

Let Me Hear Your Voice: A Family’s Triumph Over Autism by Catherine Maurice.  This is the first book that I read after finding out and it inspired me as it told the story of one mother’s successful conquest over autism in her little boy and girl.
